FED: Libs arrive for first federal meeting after election loss
CANBERRA, Dec 12 AAP - Members of the Liberal Party's federal executive have arrived
in Canberra for their first meeting since last month's election loss.
The party's federal president, Chris McDiven, who has been under pressure to resign,
declined to talk to reporters as she entered Menzies House - the Liberals' national headquarters
- in Canberra.
Ms McDiven is expected to tell the meeting she won't seek another term as president.
This would leave the way clear for a successor to take over at a federal council meeting
early next year.
Former foreign minister Alexander Downer was among the first tipped for the job but
speculation has since emerged about other candidates, including Australia's high commissioner
in London, Richard Alston, and Victorian Liberal powerbroker Michael Kroger.
